6 myths about aligners
Never believe in them

Beautiful and perfect smile – the dream of each of us. Some are lucky and are born with a beautiful smile, others have to undergo certain dental procedures, such as orthodontic treatment.
Surely you have searched the internet for information about aligners, and some contradictory things have awakened your doubts and uncertainty. In this article we will debunk 6 myths about aligners and tell the TRUTH.

01

Aligners do not treat complex orthodontic problems

The truth. Patients ask which is more effective - aligners or brackets? Each of these 2 methods is able to 100% successfully cope with the task and correct the bite problems. The essence of their treatment is similar, and the difference between brackets and aligners lies in the issues of comfort and aesthetics during wear. To decide which orthodontic appliance is right for your situation, we recommend that you schedule a free consultation with one of our doctors, specialized in orthodontics.

02

Aligners are not as effective as brackets

The truth. Most believe that only brackets are effective for correcting complex dental anomalies, and aligners only for mild problems such as an incorrectly positioned tooth. Along with technological innovations, treatment with aligners has progressed considerably. Currently, OLA/Invisalign aligners work just as effectively as brackets. With the OLA orthodontic system, the teeth are straightened by means of invisible, numbered dental aligners made by a 3D digital program. Before starting the treatment with aligners, a simulation of the final smile is made, with the help of a digital software Digital Smile Design (a simulation of the smile is made, through which you can see how your smile will look after the orthodontic treatment with aligners).

03

Aligners are really expensive

The truth. When it comes to orthodontic treatment, it is necessary to invest time, patience, involvement, responsibility and finances. Unfortunately, this is a myth that discourages most people from choosing orthodontic treatment with aligners. Well, the truth is that they are not as expensive as you might think. The average price of treatment with aligners is comparable to the price of treatment with brackets. In some cases, aligners are the same price as brackets or even cheaper.

04

Aligners taste and smell bad

The truth. Aligners have no smell or taste. They are made of a medical plastic material. However, if you do not properly care for your aligners, sanitize them regularly and maintain good oral hygiene, you may experience a specific odor. With thorough hygiene (brush teeth and aligners) no smell or taste.

05

Aligners are uncomfortable, I will have difficulty speaking

The truth. During the first 3-4 days, when the patient wears the aligners, the adaptation process begins (as the aligners are a foreign element for the oral cavity). The basic symptoms are: excessive drooling, difficult pronunciation, feeling of pressure on the teeth. All these inconveniences are temporary, and when you get used to the aligners, you won't even feel them.

06

Aligners require a special diet

The truth. With aligners you can eat anything, you have no dietary restrictions. Before eating and drinking, remove the aligners and store them in the case. With aligners on the teeth, it is forbidden to eat and drink (only plain water at room temperature is allowed).

At the Dentus•Dentino Dental Center, in Chisinau, receives effective treatment with aligners: either OLA (aligners produced in Moldova) or Invisalign (aligners produced in the USA). Teeth straightening treatment with aligners is 99% accurate, thanks to Digital Smile Design® digital technology.
